A group of friends
with over a 100 years combined experience
in the wine industry came together in 2002
and created Poverty Hill Wines.
When you add up all the years of experience that the guys from Poverty Hill have, one can see how and why such great wines are being produced by such a small boutique winery. The great thing about the team is that each person has a specific role to play and yet they all can combine their skills to get involved in all aspects of the vineyard, winery and brand.
It's a true team effort that makes Poverty Hill what is today and will be in the future.
Here is Our Team:
Michael Datta: Michael is responsible for overall product and brand development. This includes wine variety and production planning; sales and marketing development on a domestic and international scale. Michael has over a 10 years hands-on experience in the wine industry and has been involved in consulting to wineries and making award winning wines with other great growers and winemakers.
Stuart Woodman: Woody owns the vineyard that grows the fabulous Riesling fruit. These vines are over 100 years old. Woody is responsible for group operations and vineyard management.
John Eckert: Ecko is one of the hardest workers you'll ever meet. While Ecko closely manages the vines on Rob's vineyard, he also plays an integral part in assisting in the entire winemaking process. It's an understatement to say that Ecko gets his hand dirty. Ecko has worked under some of the greatest legends of the industry. They include Len Evans, while at Saltrams, Brian Croser and James Irvine. He is always asking for tips from good mates, Neville Falkenberg the maker of the White Grange when at Penfolds and David Powell of Torbreck.
Peter Hughes: Pete crunches the numbers and ensures all the administration is carefully co-ordinated and managed. Peter has a huge appreciation for good wine and all that goes in to making it.
Rob Buck : Rob owns the vineyard where the Shiraz is grown. Rob has been involved in the wine industry for over 20 years and has an excellent understanding of the wine industry.
